The El Yunque Rainforest, Located in Luquillo, Puerto Rico, is the United States only National Rainforest. El Yunque rainforest was named after an indian spirit named Yuqiye, which means "Forest of clouds."
Over 100 billion gallons of rain falls each year in El Yunque. The composition of El Yunque rainforest ranges from rainforest to semi-desert conditions within close distances. The lush forest consists of over 240 different species of plants and trees, 26 which are found nowhere else on earth.
Along with the Puerto Rican Parrot, there are 50 other species of birds within the El Yunque Rainforest.
